Characteristics

• Morphology of campylomorph: large cells, antapex more or less bent to dorsal side, cells twisted along their length, six or more pyrenoids appressed to left and right inner sides of plastid, curved furrow with refractive granulum closely appressed to left furrow margin, apex may be protruding, sheet-like inner periplast component
• Cell size of campylomorph: 35-44 x 18-20 x 17-19µm
  
• Morphology of cryptomorph: cells smaller, almost symmetrical in ventral view, two pyrenoids, approx. straight furrow, refractive granulum not closely appressed to left furrow margin, inner periplast component made of polygonal plates
• Cryptomorph cannot be distinguished by morphology from cryptomorph of Cryptomonas pyrenoidifera
  
• Cell size of cryptomorph: 17-26 x 10-15 x 9-12µm
