Ocyota
Christian Maus and James S. Ashe (1947-2005)- Ocyota dubia
- Ocyota fortepunctata
Introduction
Ocyota currently includes 2 species that occur in Central America. Nothing is known of their biology.
Characteristics
Among the subtribe Aleocharina, members of Ocyota can be recognized by the combination of: mesosternum without a carina; pronotal hypomera distinctly visible in lateral aspect; legs rather long and slender; and tibiae without spines. Within the subtribe Aleocharina members of Ocyota are most similar to, and may be confused with, members of Aleochara and Pseudocalea. Members of Ocyota can be distinguished from those of Aleochara by the lack of spines on the pro- and mesotibia, and from Pseudocalea by lack of distinct microsculpture on the foreparts of the body, distinctly transverse head, larger eyes, mesosternum without a carina and other characteristics (ASSING & WUNDERLE 1997). Ocyota has been recently revised by ASSING & WUNDERLE (1997).
